Changes are coming in March 2023 for all SNAP participants.

February 2023 is the last month households enrolled in the NJ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive emergency SNAP benefits. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government provided emergency allotments to SNAP recipients. These additional payments end on February 28th, 2023.

That means that starting in March 2023, you will only receive your regular monthly benefit amount. New Jersey has implemented a minimum monthly SNAP benefit of $95 for all SNAP beneficiaries. If your approved monthly SNAP benefit is less than $95, you will receive a supplemental payment from the State to bring your total benefit to $95. New legislation passed on February 8th, 2023 has increased the minimum SNAP benefit from the previously announced minimum of $50.

The Department of Human Services will mail letters explaining the benefits change to all SNAP households starting next week. SNAP households are encouraged to check their benefits before their next trip to the grocery store. SNAP recipients can check their benefits details at any time by logging into the online portal, with the Connect EBT mobile app, or by calling 800-997-3333.
